The Top Youth Ministry Bloggers

1115855_blogWe live in a remarkable age. In centuries past, very few people had a platform to communicate. There was very much a “top-down” model of information dissemination – The expert talks, the crowd listens. Today, anyone with a computer and internet connection has the ability to contribute to the discussion. Information bubbles up from the crowd.

This is both wonderful and terrible. Wonderful because we have so much information to choose from, terrible because its so hard to pick out the quality voices from the thunderous noise from the masses. There are hundreds of youth ministry blogs out there, maybe thousands. I have 80+ in my google reader and that is nearly impossible to keep up with. Add than in with probably 50-60 more I keep track of on twitter. Yikes!

So, here are my 10 11 picks for top youth ministry blogs. Obviously, these are subjective picks. I picked these for the quality of writing, the information they give, regular posting, and the contributions they give to the youth ministry world. You might have a different top top. But here is mine…

Doug Fields

Tim Schmoyer

Josh Griffen

YM360

Walt Mueller

Brian Kirk and Jacob Thorne

Gerrard Fess (GMan)

Terrace Crawford

Paul Turner

Adam Mclane

Doug Franklin

What is great about this list is that they all have different voices, different experiences, and different perspectives on youth ministry. But the LOVE Teens and Youth Workers! As I go through my RSS reader each day (or month, whatever) these are the bloggers that I consistently read and say, “Wow, that’s amazing.” Do I always agree with these writers? No. But they make me think and they challenge me. They continue to help me grow as a youth minister.

If you’re not listed here, don’t worry! If I have you in my reader, I think you’re awesome. If you’re not in my reader it just likely means I don’t know you’re writing. These were just the 10 that really jumped out to me. Ironically, most of these guys come from a more old school writing background but have made the jump to the new media quite nicely. So don’t feel bad to make the top 10 list, I wouldn’t even have made my own top 10 list!

Bonus – Non-YM blogs

Ron Edmondon

Michael Hyatt

Seth Godin

These three I listed because I love reading them, but they do not write from a youth ministry perspective. All three actually focus on leadership, so there are lots of great principles to draw from them.

Your turn – do you have any “Must Read” blogs for youth ministry?
